Sittwe Correspondent: Thirty five Rohingya boat passengers have died and thirty persons have been recovered alive as the boat capsized in the river while it was carrying them from Sin Tat Maw (Sandama) of Pauktaw Township to Sittwe Township on 19th of April, 2016 at around 9: am.
According to source, “The boat loaded with approximately 65 Rohingya men, women including children passengers set off for Sittwe, the capital of Arakan state and capsized by the huge waves at the entrance of Theychang River and sank into the deep water where 15 persons were recovered died, 30 persons rescued alive by the rescuers and 20 persons have been still missing.
The salvation operation is still going on in the river. However, the passengers were bound to Sittwe to buy their weekly necessary commodities for their families as usual.
The deceased have been identified as Daw Nasima 54, Ma Ro Ma 15 D/o Noor Alam, Ma Nilar 21 D/o U Maung Pyu, Daw Nyi Ma Pyu, Maung Gyi 42 S/o Kurban Ali, Hasan Shorif 2 S/o Peran Miah, Sajida 6 D/o U Nura, Muhamed Shorif 4 S/o Peran Miah, Hussain Shorif 3 S/o Hussain Ahamed, Daw Mennisa 20 D/o Nobi Hussain, Surat Jamal 18 D/o Bodu, Ajida Khatun 6 D/o Rohim Uddin, Solema Khatun 65, Ferani 60 W/o U Kholil Ahamed and a unknown baby of Sin Tat Maw village of Pauktaw Township.
But, 20 passengers have been missing in the river where the salvation operation is still going on. The relatives of the deceased and missing Rohingya passengers are expressing their deep concern and lamenting for losing their respective kids, wives, husband, dad, mom etc, the source more added.
